Terms of Vintage China Hire

Hire times

Our standard conditions are to hire to you for three days. Any extra time required may incur a surcharge but this will be discussed at the time of order.


The delivery and collection service is charged at 0.45p per mile to and from Buxted, East Sussex, to the agreed location in Sussex or Kent. Toll charges will apply. Items may also be collected from Buxted.


All of the items are despatched clean and ready to use, and packaged very carefully. They should be repacked for collection in the same way that they were delivered. It is very important that items are checked upon delivery and the accompanying delivery note signed accordingly. Please bring to our attention any problem with the delivery at this time. An inventory will be provided. In the unlikely event of a breakage, we will endeavour to supply replacement items before your event.

Care of the china

Once signed over the china becomes the responsibility of the hirer. Anything left unattended is at the hirers own risk and the hirer will be responsible for any loss or damage. All items must be handled with care and should not be put in a dishwasher. They should be handwashed and dried with extreme care ; if you would prefer us to wash them, there will be an additional charge. Please also be aware when packed the china can be particularly heavy, and may require two people to move it. We can take no responsibility for any injury caused in moving the boxes of china.

Charges and Damages

When your order is placed you will be asked to secure it with a payment to the value of 25% of your total order. The balance will then be payable 14 days before the event date along with the refundable breakage deposit equivalent to 50% of the total charge. This deposit should be a separate cheque and will be returned to the client 7 days after the event less any damage costs (if applicable). Your order will not be dispatched unless both payments have been received.

The hirer is responsible for any loss or damage to the items until they have been checked back in by a member of our team. Any known loss or damage should be reported at the point of return. We will inform the hirer as soon as possible after return of any breakage charges that may apply.
Breakage charges are listed at the end of these terms.

Cancellations and amendments

Amendments can be made up to one week before delivery/collection but will be dependent on stock levels at the time.
In the event that you wish to cancel an order, the following charges will apply:-

  • 30 days or above no charge incurred and deposit returned in full
  • 29-14 days, 25% booking deposit is non-returnable
  • Less than 14 days, 50% of total order value
  • 7 days and under 100% of the total order value

Breakage charges

Please note, The Wealden Kitchen accepts no responsibility for any injury or damage caused by the hire of any crockery. This includes any arising from item malfunctions or breakages.
